How many times have you read to light a candle and leave it burning to make your spell work? So you go to the store and find a lovely taper in the color you need. Then you dress the candle with oil, focus intently, and light it up. You sit there for a few minutes visualizing your goal. Then you're done.
And the candle is still burning. An hour later, it's still burning. Two hours later, you need to go to work. Feeling guilty, you snuff the candle out. Then you decide you can repeat the spell tomorrow. You can light the candle every day until you reach your goal.
Which happens much faster than you expect. Maybe 3 or 4 days later, you have everything you asked for. But there's still plenty of candle left. Now what? Save the candle for a similar spell? Cleanse it and use again for an entirely different spell? Melt the wax down and make a new candle? Throw it out?
The next time you go to the store, you buy a different brand. You chose to do your spell on your day off. That doesn't align with the planets you need for this spell, but you are determined to let the candle burn all the way down, no matter how long it takes.
And maybe that's when you discover all candle companies are not the same. Maybe this candle burns down completely in 3 hours. Or maybe you start at 8am and the candle is still going strong at 11pm and you really want to go to bed, but are afraid to leave an open flame unattended. Maybe you get smart and start burning candles in your bath tub, which works great until you need to bathe and the candle is in your way.
Fear not. There are solutions. Birthday candles.
Birthday candles come in every color. They are sold in grocery stores and dollar stores and craft stores. If you check the party section, or the baking section of the craft store, you will find birthday candles for cakes, cupcakes, office parties, and themed parties. If you go to an actual party store, you will find even more choices, including number candles, letter candles, and shaped candles, plus even more colors.
So now you can get a candle designed to burn down completely in minutes, in any color that you please. Being small, birthday candles are easy to modify, so you could buy candle wax and scented oils and dip the birthday candle in that for a spell you made yourself.
I burn my candle spells in my fireplace with the doors closed because our cat is fascinated by fire. I have to shoo him away from the fireplace on cold days and I am certain he is going to get burned.
I set my candles on an old plate. I melt the wax a bit to make it stand up. I don't really want to leave wax in the fireplace because brightly colored wax is noticeable. I do my spells once everyone has left for the day.
The nice thing about burning birthday candles in the fireplace is that it also allows me to safely burn petitions. I can also set the candles directly onto logs, then start a fire. Think Yule log spells. Or burning wheat dolls. When I empty the ashes, all evidence of my spell is gone.
If you have a fireplace, you could even go back to using taper candles or pillar candles. If you don't the fireplace being tied up for days.
