A Month of Witches & Magick- What I Learned About Transmutation Circles Day 4

After coloring, I believe the next step is to activate the circle. I think this can be done in several different ways. I believe first, you must name your intent. You must clearly state what the circle is for. Each element/symbol of the circle has a meaning and I think this why coloring it is so important; you move over each aspect of the design and you must consider its meaning and purpose. I think transmutation circles can be activated by sound (drumming or chanting), by movement (tracing signals and signs with either a tool, fingers, or by dancing), or visually with the use of candles, stones, herbs, etc. (as in every time you see it you mentally reaffirm the spell is working). I chose to use a candle and my spindle.
The very first thing I did was clean. I cleaned my altar. I took everything off, dusted each item, then polished the vanity. I carefully placed things on the altar. I added the boxes because they will be part of my business. This is a 'building' type of spell- I will be repeating it as the business grows. Therefore, I left things a little vague. I focused on the end result, not how I'm going to accomplish it. I want to leave some room to grow and change.

For my candle, I used a birthday candle. I intended to use a tea light, but they burn about four hours. I wanted to make sure everything was done and put away before anyone came home. I also waited two hours before I activated the circle because I knew my neighbor was coming over. I didn't think he would come into the house (and he didn't) but better safe than sorry.

I also cleaned the rest of the house. I didn't clean the whole house, I just vacuumed the floor. I believe the pathway of magick must be open in order for magick to work. I believe cleaning the house symbolizes both an opening and my willingness to reach for my goals.

Finally, with neighbors gone and a clean space, I could get to work.

I centered myself, stood before my altar, then stated what I wanted. I started spinning the spindle to move energy where I wanted it to go- from myself to the circle to the boxes. I clearly said what I hoped to achieve. Then I lit my candle and visualized my desire.

After the candle burned out, I packed away my journal, the dish I used to set the candle in, and the spindle. The boxes stayed because I intend to start working on them. As I often set projects here, that isn't unusual for me and it won't look out of place.

It will be a while before we know if my magick is working, so for the next few days I'll be talking about circles and designs in general and how they could be used for magick.

I think this method helps to really keep you focused. Although I am always unsure what is really necessary in magic, wondering if our will is really the best tool, it's often hard to get ourselves in a place where we can really focus. The physical acts and items we use help us stay focused and I think add to the success of the work.

Yes, the 'tools' utilized are what helps a person stay focused on the task at hand. And so many Paths say that a clean work/worship area is the best way to allow the energies to work. I will mop the floor (seldom have I lived where there was carpet) with a few drops of cinnamon oil added to the mop water.
